06/01/2019 - 2019 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's National West Matthew is an athletic and talented RHP prospect. On the bump, Matthew has good tempo in his delivery and competes on every pitch. He gathers over the rubber, separates on time, and keeps his head on his target. He works downhill and extends through his delivery. His fastball has late tail, his slider has more of a cutter action, and he gets good downward run on his changeup. Matthew will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

10/28/2017 - 2017 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's Futures West Matthew is a talented 2020 grad with a high ceiling. He impressed on the mound at the BF UA Futures West event showing the frame (6'4"/210) and poise of an older pitcher. His fastball touched 89 mph with good downhill plane and occasional run. His delivery is repeatable and his arm works cleanly from separation to release. Matthew has arm speed, and though there is some effort present, he seems to have more velocity in the tank. His secondary offerings include a curve that has good shape, and looks to be a pitch that he is confident in as he landed several for strikes. He also threw a change in the 75-78 mph range that had some sink. Matthew showed athleticism playing the infield and swing the bat. His quiet approach at the plate led to hard contact and his leverage power was most evident to the pull side. Overall, the makings are there for a quality 3-pitch mix on a durable frame making Matthew a starting pitching prospect to follow closely.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
