Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • SS/RHPPosition Projection

01/15/2016 - Baseball Factory Spring Training in Arizona (Ages 14-18) Matthew is a 5'11/155 lbs SS/RHP that continues to show strength and progress on the diamond. Defensively, he moved well to make plays with a soft glove and threw with some arm strength across the diamond, hitting a new raw velo high of 81. His lateral movement was a plus and with more consistent pre-pitch footwork will continue to improve. Offensively, he had loose hands to hit with good rhythm, and he flashed an ability to use his hips with his hands for added pop. Focusing on controlling his swing, while maintaining his aggressive approach is key to elevating his offensive skill. On the mound, he threw his FB and 12/6 CB with overall smooth rhythm in his delivery. He displays projection when he cleaned up his direction and stayed in his legs which will continue to add velo. In all - Matthew is a sophomore that has good promise as he continues to implement drill work to strengthen his game.

10/04/2015 - College PREP - Parker (Denver), CO Matthew is an athletic SS/RHP who graduates in 2018. Defensively in the MIF, he shows active footwork and moves well around the GB into a square fielding position. He has good lateral range to his backhand and is sure handed with a clean exchange to throw. As a hitter - Matthew shows a square stance with quiet/simple actions. Swing is direct to and through the zone as he connects and drives the middle of the field. Improving his timing will help to increase contact consistency. On the mound, this RHP has a 3-pitch mix coming from a 3/4 arm slot. He works to a controlled balance point, gets strong glove side lead / glove tuck and stays directional toward the plate. FB ranges from 68-72 mph as he fills up the zone with strikes. Curveball shows 11/5 shape while changeup has some drop. Added velocity will come with more lower 1/2 drive off of the rubber. A 2018 grad - Matthew has skills with upside on the diamond as he continues to develop and physically mature.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
