11/04/2018 - College PREP - Plano (DFW), TX Matthew is a good sized, 2-way player who catches and pitches. Behind the plate, Matthew sits in well, he holds a low target, and gets good glove extension to the ball. He catches squarely, uses his chest well to block, and has a clean exchange with a quick release to 2nd base. Pop times were as low as 2.29 seconds. A wider base, quicker feet, and added arm strength will help catching skills improve. On the mound, Matthew stands over the rubber well balanced, he separates on time, and rotates through toward his target. He will need to loosen his arm action, get more extension, and finish in a better position for mound effectiveness to improve. Offensively, Matthew has a tall/square set-up, a short stride, and he gets good separation. He stays inside the ball well, makes square/consistent contact, and he uses his lower body. Solid hitting can improve with better timing, balance, and a shorter swing path.
