08/06/2023 - National Showcase - Newnan, GA Matthew big, strong and talented 1B/RHP in the 2025 class. In the field, he shows active feet and gains ground to the baseball properly. Gains a low and athletic fielding position and the ball sticks to his mitt. His exchanges are quick and his feeds are accurate with life at 85 velo. On the mound, he looks polished and comfortable. FB touch 84 with arm side run at a high ¾ release. His breaking pitch sat 66-8 with 11-5 shape and sharp action. His CH had tailing actions and deception at 72-5. Working to find a consistent release point will be a key point as he progresses on the mound. At the plate, he shows solid pop and looks athletic. Likes to be aggressive and swings with intent. Stays inside his feet well for a direct path and a hard contact rate. Overall, Matthew is a must follow in the 2025 class.

05/15/2022 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Kannapolis (Charlotte), NC Matthew continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 76 mph. fastball shows a range of 74-76 mph on a downhill plane. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with sharp break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with slight sink. Control is outstanding as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows an open setup. Hands are quick (and work through an aggressive swing path. He makes consistent contact through a line drive approach with power showing best to the pull side. At 1B, he shows smooth / fluid actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork around bag, and he is a quality receiver. Hands are clean but needs to present more out front. He moves well laterally with range improving as he continues to improve foot quickness.

01/14/2022 - 2022 Baseball Factory Rookie Pre-Season All-America Tournament Matthew shined once again at the All American Preseason Rookie tournament. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Glove action clean but will benefit by presenting more out front. Range will increase as he continues to improve his foot quickness. At the plate, he shows a tall setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent hard contact through a line drive approach with power showing best to the pull side. Power will continue to increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 75 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with slight sink. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

12/10/2021 - Baseball Factory Academic All-American Tournament Matthew continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities at the Academic All-American showcase. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. On the mound, delivery is sound and repeatable allowing his arm action to work well to the plate. Arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 74 mph. Fastball shows a range of 70-74 mph on a downhill plane. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with arm side run. Control is solid as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. He shows good mound presence and competes on the bump. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Glove action is clean but needs to present more out front. At the plate, he shows an open setup. Hands are quick (and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently.

07/17/2021 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 (MS) Matthew is lanky RHP/1B who has a promising future on the diamond. At 1B, he shows smooth / fluid actions. He displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Glove action is clean but needs to present more out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate, he shows an open setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach with power showing best to the pull side. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 68-72 mph with tailing action. Breaking ball displays 12/6 shape with gradual break. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. He can improve as a pitcher by long tossing to build up his arm strength. With 4 years to further develop, Matthew has potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
