10/02/2011 - College PREP - Trenton, NJ
Matt showed some similar abilities during his last workout in Trenton, NJ. He has soft / sure hands, playable feet, and he fields out in front of his body. Matt moves well to his backhand, he works the double play nicely, and his exchange is quick and clean. Matt has a short / quick arm action, and he throws with accuracy to his target. Adding arm strength and improving his range will only help spike defensive numbers. At the plate, Matt has a square / athletic stance, a proper load, and a short / square stride. He has good balance, a loose grip, and quick hands with good bat speed. Matt makes square contact, he swing swings in good rhythm, and he gets his lower 1/2 through. A more level swing and less shoulders should help spike offensive numbers.
08/10/2011 - Pirate City World Series 2011 - Session 2
Matt is a strong / athletic MIF that will graduate in 2012. Foot speed is near average as he will benefit by getting on a speed / agility program to improve foot quickness for the next level. Feet are active as he moves well laterally, flashing range in the MIF. He attacks ground balls, playing through well with his body as he presents hands down and out front, displaying solid glove action. Hands / feet work well together in getting rid of the baseball quickly with carry and accuracy across the diamond as he shows big play potential. Offensively, Bowers shows a balance approach with rhythm. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed as he works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Barrel accuracy is a plus with the baseball jumping off his bat when centered. Bowers is a solid player that does a lot of things well and will catch the eyes of the college coaches as he continues to improve.
