09/12/2010 - College PREP - Sacramento, CA Matt is a two-way player on the mound plus as a catcher with large frame that shows projection as he continues to polish, firming up. He has a strong lower half that works well behind the plate. Feet are active working in line, showing proper direction to his target as he gets rid of the baseball quickly through a quick transfer / exchange. Pop times show a range of 2.09-2.28 with throws showing life, carry, and accuracy into his target. Receiving and blocking skills are solid showing potential as being quality tools as he continues to develop. Hands are soft as he lets the ball travel, working well around the ball. Offensively, Burrows shows a solid setup that allows his hands to work directly to the baseball. He has strength in his swing with the baseball jumping off his bat when centered. Power numbers will continue to increase as he learns to utilize his lower half more efficiently through the swing. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 82-83 mph with arm side run. Arm action shows some effort to the plate. Off speed pitches are average to slightly above, needing further development to be quality pitches at the next level. He is around the plate with all his pitches, throwing strikes. Matt has a lot of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches as he continues to improve.
