ADVANCED SWING METRICS BY SWINGTRACKER

Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHPPosition Projection

11/08/2015 - College PREP - Middletown (Hartford), CT Matthew continues to work hard on his game. This athletic RHP has a strong lower 1/2 and projectable build. On the mound, he maintains fluid rhythm, has smooth separation and stays directional toward the dish. He works his pitches to both sides of the plate and throws strikes. FB now tops out at 71 mph with slight cut. Breaking ball has 10/4 shape while changeup shows sink - which will result in GB outs. Continuing to develop his arm strength (long toss) will add velocity on his FB which will help to improve overall effectiveness on the bump. As a hitter -Matthew shows a balanced setup with patience waiting for his pitch. Swing is level as he squares the ball up and drives it back up the middle of the field. Swinging on a shorter/more direct path with increased bat speed will result in increased power. A 2018 grad - Matthew has skills with some upside on the mound.

12/27/2013 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic Matthew is a great kid who works hard. As an infielder he showed good footwork, sure hands, and tracks the ball in and out. He can focus on better pre-pitch positioning, field the ball out front and increase lateral quickness. On the mound Matthew has a good arm action, reaches a balance point and extends to finish. He needs to keep front side on target, control pace and develop a smoother/more consistent delivery. At the plate Matthew displayed a good setup and plate discipline but he can improve by being softer on the front side, stay balanced, and eliminate his bat wrap.

12/07/2013 - Hitting Accelerated Training Weekend (Commuter) (Ages 14-18) Matthew shoes potential and understands the swing very well. He has a square set up, and shows a solid stride and load. Matthew shows the ability to use his hands very well during the swing, allowing him to hit the ball to all fields. However, he needs to work on not lunging his weight toward the ball during the swing. He tends to let his hips drift into his swing, and also during the swing, this will take away from his power. He needs to let his weight stay in the middle of his body and not out over his front leg.

08/25/2013 - College PREP - Farmingville (Long Island), NY Matthew is a young RHP/3B that will graduate in 2018. As a defensively advanced 3B, he has soft hands, a quick exchange and active footwork. He shows a good prep step and has an accurate arm. On the bump, he shows a good tempo with his repeatable delivery, and has loose arm action. He throws three pitches, with some decent feel for a CH. Offensively, he is patient, and has a good feel to get to launch. Overall - Matthew is a young player that needs to gain strength to continue to excel in the game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
