Official Scouting Report

  • 3B/RHPPosition Projection

03/17/2019 - Accelerated Interactive Video Program - Monterey Park (Los Angeles), CA Matthew is an athletic 3B/RHP prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the field. At 3B, Matthew shows active footwork and covers ground well. He gets into an athletic position and fields the ball out in front of his body. He makes a clean exchange and gains momentum well on his throws, keeping them accurate and on-line to his target. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a crouched stance and takes a short stride. He is smooth getting back into his load and drives through well with his lower half. He takes a direct swing with fast bat speed, leading to loud contact and line drives into the gaps. On the mound, Matthew gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a clean arm and stays inline towards the plate, finishing square to his target. Matthew shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 80mph with arm side run. Breaking ball sits from 64-67mph with 10-4 break. Overall abilities can improve with work on the following.

Fielding
1. Better angles
2. Set feet to throw
Hitting
1. Keep back elbow connected
2. More extension
Pitching
1. Extend through release
2. Chest over knee finish

03/18/2018 - Interactive Video Program - Monterey Park (Los Angeles), CA Matthew is a young, 2-way player who plays 1B and RHP. Defensively, Matthew has active feet, he fields in a low/athletic position, and his hands are soft. He plays lows, fields cleanly, and throws with accuracy and momentum toward his target from a short arm action. On the mound, Matthew has good balance, a loose arm action, and finishes in a complete position. Offensively, Matthew has a square set-up, good load, and decent bat speed. He is a strong hitter with good hip rotation and he can spray the ball to all fields. Matthew can get better with work on the following.

Defense
1. Arm action
2. Play more through
Pitching
1. Extension
2. Direction
3. CB
Offense
1. Level swing

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
