11/05/2023 - National Showcase - Daytona Beach, FL Matthew continues to show as a prospect on the diamond with improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 6.98 runner. As a corner IF, defensive abilities are solid as he shows smooth / fluid actions. Feet are active as he attacks balls and plays through with his body, gaining ground. Hands are soft and presents out front. Throws are accurate with on line carry (91 mph velocity across the diamond. At the plate, hitting abilities are outstanding with well above average power potential an athletic setup. Hands are quick (87 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with power showing best to the pull side. Lower half works well through an aggressive hip turn. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 83 mph. Fastball showed a range of 81-83 mph with tailing action. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Slider is harder with tight spin and short break. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Getting on a long toss program to develop more arm strength will aid in improving stock on the mound.

08/01/2022 - All-In Membership - Daytona Beach, FL Matthew is an athletic SS/RHP prospect who will graduate in 2024. In the field, Matthew shows efficient footwork and moves well laterally. He gets into a low position and fields the ball out in front with a firm glove. His exchange is clean and he makes accurate throws to his target. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a tall stance and takes a short stride. He is smooth to load and drives through well with his lower half. He generates fast bat speed through the zone and produces strong line drives. On the mound, Matthew gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a loose arm and extends through his release, staying inline toward the plate. Matthew operates with a four pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 80mph with tailing action. Curveball sits from 66-67mph with 11-5 break. Slider sits from 67-68mph with 10-4 break. Changeup sits from 71-72mph with tailing action as he throws with deceptive arm speed. Overall, Matthew is a talented prospect who has the potential to further build upon his skills on the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
