For defensive grades to continue to improve, he needs to work on getting behind balls more and play through with momentum to his target. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, Contreras shows a balanced approach with rhythm. Hands work through a level swing path as he makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. Hands works through a level swing path and he makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. For hitting / power grades to continue to improve, he needs to work to stay inside the baseball and use his lower half more. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 68-71 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 2/8 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with arm side run. Mental makeup is a plus as he is coachable and a hard worker. With 2 years to further develop, Matthew has abilities with time and room to improve.
