04/17/2011 - College PREP - Stockton (Sacramento), CA Matt is a young two-way player at SS plus on the mound. He has a thin, athletic frame that shows projection as he continues to physically mature. Foot speed is slightly above average as indicated by his 60 time of 7.41. Feet are active as he works to field all balls in front but needs to play through more with his body. Hands / feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy on his throws. He will benefit by getting on a long toss program to build more arm strength with carry. Offensively, Denney shows a squared, balanced approach and uses his lower half well. He displays a short stroke and makes consistent contact but has some mechanical flaws that are hindering him from reaching his full potential with grades improving quickly with instruction and adjustments. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 75-76 mph with cutting action. Off speed pitches are slightly above averages showing potential as being quality pitches at the next level as he continues to improve. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with early, gradual break. Changeups shows average feel for with fading action. With 3 years to further develop, Matt has abilities with time and room to improve.
