Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1B/RHPPosition Projection

01/17/2020 - 2020 Baseball Factory All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament Matthew is an athletic solid 1B/RHP who has a promising future on the diamond. At 1B, he displays clean / smooth actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Glove action is soft / sure and presents well out front. Range will increase as he improves his foot quickness. At the plate, he shows as a switch hitter that projects best from the right side. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent hard contact through a line drive approach with power showing best to the pull side. Power will continue to increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 67-69 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup and shows a solid feel for pitch. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase arm strength which will aid in his development on the mound. With 4 years to further develop, Matthew has the makings of a special type player and will get looks from the collegiate coaches as he continues to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
