06/16/2019 - Omaha National World Series - Session 1 (Ages 14-18)
Matthew continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. Behind the plate, pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.06. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Hands are soft / sure and he sticks balls in the zone. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process, centering balls well out front. At the plate, power potential has improved through a squared setup. Hands are quick (82 mph exit velocity) and work to and through a level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. Mental makeup is a plus as he is a team player, coachable, and plays the game hard.
03/17/2019 - College PREP - Tomball (Houston), TX
Matthew is a C/1B prospect who will graduate in 2021. Behind the plate, Matthew sits in a low stance and tracks the ball into his glove. He makes a clean exchange and gets rid of the ball quickly, getting good carry through the 2B bag. Increasing his range to block can help Matthew improve as a C. At 1B, Matthew makes the routine plays and makes a clean exchange. He gets rid of the ball quickly, keeping his throws accurate with carry through his target. Fielding the ball out in front of his body can help Matthew improve as a 1B. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a short stride. He shows a smooth rhythm and drives his lower half through well. He takes a direct swing with fast bat speed, leading to loud contact and gap to gap pop. Matthew can improve as a hitter by working more of a load into his swing. With two more years to develop, Matthew has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.
