Official Scouting Report

  • 1B/LHPPosition Projection

09/04/2020 - MS All-Region Tournament Matthew is an athletic 1B/LHP prospect who showed well during the All-Region Tournament. In the field, Matthew takes good angles and gets into a square position. He fields the ball out in front of his body and has a clean exchange, keeping his throws on-line to his target. At the plate, this LHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes his stride on time. He is fluid getting into his load and drives through well with his lower half. He takes a direct swing with fast bat speed, leading to loud contact and line drives. On the mound, Matthew gathers over the rubber and works inline toward the plate, finishing square to his target. He shows a two pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 65mph with tailing action. Breaking ball sits from 49-54mph with 2-8 break. Overall, Matthew is a talented prospect who has the potential to further build upon his skills on the field.

05/27/2019 - National Tryout Plus - Jupiter, FL Matthew worked out at 1B and on the mound during his last workout with The Factory. He increased radar velocity on the mound to 70 MPH. He keeps his eyes on target, his arm action is clean, and he separates on time. Matthew works on a downhill plane, he has a controlled landing toward the plate, and he competes in the zone. At 1B, Matthew has a presentable glove, he works through the ball, and he fields squarely. He covers ground, his exchange is clean, and his arm is accurate to his target. At the plate, Matthew has a square set-up, good balance, and he has strength in his swing to the pull side.

03/02/2019 - Mid Atlantic Regional Hitting, Pitching & Catching Combined Weekend (Ages 12-14) Matthew is a coachable 1B/LHP prospect who worked hard on his skills during the Accelerated Training Weekend. On the mound, Matthew gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a clean arm and stays inline towards the plate, finishing with a controlled landing. Matthew shows a two pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 65mph with tailing action. Changeup sits from 57-58mph with tailing action. Extending through his release more can help Matthew improve as a pitcher. At the plate, this LHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a short stride. He gets into his load well and drives through with his lower half. He produces fast bat speed through the zone, leading to solid gap to gap pop. Matthew can improve as a hitter by working a smoother rhythm into his load. With six more years to develop, Matthew has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

02/10/2019 - National Tryout Plus - Delray Beach, FL Matthew worked out at 1B and on the mound during his last workout with The Factory. In the INF, Matthew showed good pre-pitch actions, active footwork, and firm/presentable hands. He fields athletically, has a clean exchange, and throws with accuracy and momentum from a short arm action to his target. On the mound, this LHP keeps his eyes on target, he separates on time, and has a repeatable delivery. He has good balance, a controlled landing toward home, and he is around the zone with his pitches. Offensively, Matthew has a square set-up, he tracks well, and hits hard to the pull side. He finishes his swing and hustles down the line.

12/20/2018 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic - Session 1 (Ages 12-14) Matthew is an athletic 2-way prospect that was eager to learn and made several adjustments throughout the week. At 1B, Matthew starts in an athletic position, presents a low/early glove, and makes accurate throws across the diamond. He works well off the bag and has awareness on cut off plays. Continuing to long toss and throw from multiple arm angles during his throwing program will increase arm strength and athleticism. At the plate, Matthew starts in an open stance and makes hard contact. He has a good approach but needs to continue to attack the inside part of the ball, and level out his swing. On the bump, Matthew has good mound presence and works downhill. He stays balanced over the rubber, separates on time, and throws fastball for strikes. Matthew will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

11/11/2018 - Interactive Video Program - Davie, FL Matthew is an athletic 1B/LHP prospect who will graduate in 2025. In the field, Matthew shows efficient footwork and works from the ground up. He throws from over top and makes accurate on-line throws to his target. At the plate, this LHH sets up in a square stance and takes a short stride. He takes a direct swing to the ball and produces solid line drives. On the mound, Matthew keeps his eyes on target as he gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He extends through on his release and finishes square to the plate. Matthew shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 63mph with arm side run. Cutter sits from 57-58mph. Changeup sits at 53mph. Overall abilities can improve with work on the following.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
