11/05/2015 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City Matthew is a lean, athletic OF that will graduate in 2018. Foot speed is slightly above average as indicated by his 7.44 60 time. In the OF, he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls, displaying clean hands. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he reads balls better off bat, works to get behind balls to play through with momentum to his target. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate he shows a squared / balanced setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact and makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. He shows a strong recognition of the strikes zone and is aggressive. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he works to stay inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will continue to increase as he stays back and uses his lower half more efficiently. At the event he was 1 for 5 with a 2B and 2 HBP as he sits in well. With 3 years to further develop, Matthew has abilities with time and room to continue to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
