02/19/2023 - National Showcase - Highland Park (DFW), TX Matthew is an OF/SS who will graduate in 2023. Medium frame athletic build with strength present. In the OF, good first step reads enables him to cover ground in all directions and make routine plays. Showed good lateral range as he works behind/through the baseball with a high 1-hand catch. Made accurate/on-line throws from a 3/4 arm slot with an arm velocity up to 70mph. At SS, starts with a prep step and has good body control at the baseball. Works from right to left and fields with hands out front. At the plate, he hits from an athletic and even stance. Showed good plate discipline as he only offered at pitches in the strike zone. Has a flat barrel path through the zone, with ability to keep his hands inside the baseball, and has late bat whip. Hit line drives to all fields with a bat exit velocity up to 73mph. With another season of continued development, we foresee the 2-way player making huge strides on the baseball field.

Exclusive College Recruiting Program Matt is a lean framed athletic 2023 prospect with athletic actions at the plate and on defense. At the plate he is a switch hitter who shows a loose swing with bat speed from the LH side where he shows a feel for the barrel and ability to use the whole field. On the RH side he shows a balanced swing with good bat speed and an ability to turn on the baseball with lift and potential power to the pull side. Defensively, he has quick feet with athleticism that shows range laterally and the ability to get downhill on a ground ball which will allow him to play multiple spots on the IF and potential to stick at SS. Has experience as a catcher where he has soft hands and ability to receive. Profiles as a defensive impact MIF prospect who will provide offense with an athletic profile, ability to hit and his 6.9 60-yard dash speed can impact the game on the bases.

09/06/2020 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Frisco (DFW), TX Matthew is a lean, athletic SS/OF who will graduate in 2023. At SS, he displays smooth / fluid actions. Feet are active as he attacks and plays through balls with his body. Glove action soft / sure as he presents well out front. In the OF, he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls and reads balls well off the bat. He works to get behind but needs to play through more with momentum to his target. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows a closed setup. Hands are loose and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball well utilizing the middle of the field. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. With 3 years to further develop, Matthew has a lot of potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
