Official Scouting Report

  • RHP/SSPosition Projection

09/10/2017 - College PREP - Kansas City, KS Matthew is a solid 2-way prospect who continues to shine. On the mound, this RHP fires with a long/loose arm action. He maintains fluid tempo and repeats well. He fills up the zone with all 3-pitches, working the ball in and out. FB cracks the mitt at 83 mph while showing some arm-side run. Curveball has 11/5 shape with late break and tight spin. He works to keep his CH low as it will be a solid swing and miss pitch. At SS, Matthew has active prep with fluid/athletic actions. He works right to left through the ball, has soft hands with a quick exchange to throw. He moves well laterally and makes the tough plays to his right and left look easy. As a hitter, this righty gets good hand separation in his load. He lets the ball travel into the zone, whips the barrel with speed and drives the ball with some pop. Matthew is a talented prospect who will make an impact as he enters his junior year.

06/18/2017 - College PREP - Kansas City, MO Matthew is a tall 2019 SS/RHP. At SS, Mathew has active pre pitch movement, soft hands and a clean exchange. He shows good footwork when turning double plays and works hard for every ball. If he continues follow through on his throws, Matthew will take his infield skills to the next level. At the plate, Matthew has an easy grip on the bat, separates his hands from his body, and gets extension through the ball. Driving his back side down to the ball will help Matthew improve as a hitter. On the mound, Matthew keeps his eyes on his target, stays balanced over the rubber, and has fluidity when separating his hands. Matthew can improve as a pitcher by staying directional toward the plate and by repeating his delivery. With two more years to develop, Matthew has the time and potential to further develop his skills.

11/05/2015 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City Matthew is a tall, lean RHP/3B that will graduate in 2019 with a promising future on the diamond. At 3B, feet are active as he displays proper footwork as he works to square ground balls up, displaying clean hands as he makes the routine plays. Hands / feet work well together through the fielding process as he plays through the baseball. For defensive grade to continue to improve, he needs to present hands more out front and increase foot quickness. At the plate he shows a squared setup with rhythm. Hands are loose and he attacks balls, making consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields and get stride foot down sooner to work on time. Power numbers will increase as he learns to load more and utilize his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 75-76 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He works through a quick tempo and throws strikes with all his pitches, working to get ahead of hitters. Stock to the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength and develops more off speed pitches. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable. With 4 years to further develop, Matthew has a lot of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities as he continues to develop.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
