01/15/2016 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Givin stands a wiry 6-foot-2 and 176 pound with a high waist and an athletic look. He offered evidence of ability to create speed with a 6.98 60 yard dash, and showed evidence of strength with 93 mph exit velocity. His right-handed stroke was short to contact and he showed good feel for the barrel. A coordinated overall move allowed for an approach that produced hard line drives from gap to gap with an occasional drive deeper to the pull side. Defensively, he moved with purpose to the ball and showed good hands upon receipt. His actions were crisp and he was able to accelerate at times for good lateral range. Overall, a talented overall player with well-rounded skills and athleticism.

10/14/2015 - Arizona Junior Fall Classic Matthew is a lean, strong SS with speedy feet and next level pop. He is a skilled athlete who is fun to watch. At the dish, he hits from a strong/athletic stance with a whippy bat. He hits with a mature approach, showing the ability to drive the ball deep into the gaps with ease. Once on base he's a threat to steal with his speed. Defensively, he is a vocal leader and takes charge on the diamond. Arm slot plays from multiple angles throwing on the run with ease. He has plus lateral movements making the plays to his glove-side and backhand with ease. In all, Matthew possesses next level tools in every facet of his game and will play at a very high level. He's an exciting prospect to keep an eye on.

05/03/2015 - College PREP - Lakewood (Denver), CO Matthew is a talented R/R SS who has a projectable frame (6'3"/145). With the bat, this RHH shows a square setup with good balance and fluid rhythm. He works back to a strong loaded position waiting for his pitch. Barrel delivery is quick to and through the zone as he connects and drives the ball with pop to all parts of the field. At SS, Matthew shows smooth/athletic actions and works around the GB. He gathers well, has a clean exchange and makes accurate throws across the diamond to 1B. Only a 2017 grad - Givin has tools with a bright future ahead of him.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
