Official Scouting Report

  • 5Class Rating
  • SS/RHPPosition Projection

07/18/2018 - College PREP - Minneapolis, MN Matthew is a strong, athletic built SS/RHP prospect who has a versatile skill set. Offensively, Matthew has a tall, open setup with a centered balance. He has smooth rhythm with a good load and long stride as his lower half leads his swing. Matthew has a direct swing path with a good feel for his barrel. He stays inside the baseball producing square contact. Matthew is a line drive type hitter who has a middle of the field approach. In the field, Matthew plays with effective pre-pitch actions and quick, fluid footwork. He moves with agile actions and fields the ball in a square, athletic position. Matthew receives the ball with soft hands and he has a quick, clean exchange. He has a short arm action throwing from a 3/4 arm slot. Matthew plays with momentum through the baseball showing strong, accurate throws across the diamond. On the mound, Matthew has a balanced, on-time delivery throwing from a high 3/4 arm slot. He has a loose, quick arm action and extends through his release. Matthew stays square to home plate with the proper stride length. He does a nice job rotating with his core towards his target as he finishes. He commands his fastball with run movement at 80-83 MPH. He also locates a deceptive changeup and his curveball shows medium break. Overall, Matthew has the skill and approach on both sides of the ball to give him a bright future on the diamond.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
