01/13/2017 - Baseball Factory National Spring Training at Pirate City Matthew is a big, strong RHP/3B who has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate is where he shows best through a tall setup. Hands are quick (88 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He has plus hand / eye coordination and shows a solid feel for the barrel. Hands work inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. He has strength in his swing with the baseball jumping off the bat when centered. At the event, he was 4 for 6. At 3B, feet are active / aggressive as he attacks balls and plays through a low approach. Glove action is clean but will benefit by presenting more out front. He shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds of the double play as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 66-71 mph with 10/4 shape breaking ball. Control is well above average as he attacks hitters, working ahead in the count. He is aggressive and shows good mound composure. Stock on the mound will continue to increase as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and is a great team player. He can play multiple positions and works hard at all. With 3 years to further develop, Matthew has an upside with time and room to progress his game.
