09/02/2022 - Baseball Factory's All-Region Tournament (HS) with Video Showcase Matthew is a class of 2023 C who showed well at the All-Region Tournament. Behind the plate, he showed good footwork and plus arm strength. He has a good ability to control the run game and had pop times as low as 2.29 seconds. He did a good job blocking and showed quickness and good pitch recognition. He received well and was able to show quiet actions. At the plate, he has a good approach with a middle of the field focus. He did a good job using his lower ½ at the plate. In game action he was able to find barrels often and got on base multiple times with a couple of RBI's. Matthew is a well-rounded athletic catcher and we hope to see him again as he continues to develop.

08/21/2022 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Hartford, CT Matthew is a strong defensive catcher in the 2023 class. Behind the plate, he stays compact with athletic movements. He keeps his eyes behind the baseball with controlled sway action. Can maintain the strike zone and beat the baseball to the spot. Generates angles on his blocks and knees replace his feet properly. His exchanges are quick and clean and he uses short high ¾ release for accurate feeds to the bag (2.20 pop). At the plate, He displays solid balance and a simple and repeatable load. He gets into his legs well and generates power with his backside. Swing path is direct and has barrel feel. Overall, Matthew is a solid prospect and can make a fine addition to a college program very soon.

01/14/2022 - 2022 Baseball Factory Pre-Season Prospects Tournament (HS) Matthew is a class of 2023 catcher. Behind the plate, he showed good footwork and some arm strength. He has a good ability to control the run game and had pop times as low as 2.40 seconds. He did a good job blocking and showed quickness and good pitch recognition. He received well and was able to show quiet actions. At the plate, he showed the ability to track pitches well. He has a good approach with a middle of the field focus. He did a good job using his lower ½ and getting separation. In game action he was able to find barrels often and got on base multiple times. Matthew is a well-rounded athletic catcher and we hope to see him again as he continues to develop.

12/19/2021 - Official College Recruiting Membership - North Branford, CT Matthew is a young catcher, who will graduate in 2023. He showed many improvements in his game during his last workout. Defensively, Matthew shows quick/fluid footwork, agile range, and he sits in square and athletically. He has a soft/presentable glove, he lets the ball travel deep, and his exchange is clean, throwing with consistency and accuracy to 2B. Pop times were as low as 2.35 seconds to second base. Continuing to add arm strength and added reps will only help abilities behind the plate get better. Offensively, Matthew has a square set up, good balance, and a rhythmic swing. He has solid hip turn, he makes square/level contact, and works the middle of the field well. Solid hitting can become even better with a looser grip, and better weight transfer.

07/30/2021 - Baseball Factory Pro Select Training & Tournament at Jackie Robinson Training Complex (HS) Matthew is a coachable C prospect who worked hard on his skills during the Pro Select Training & Tournament. Behind the dish, Matthew sits in an athletic stance and tracks the ball into his glove. His exchange is clean and he gains ground well on his throws, keeping them accurate to the 2B bag. He creates good angles when blocking and keeps dirt balls in front of him. Getting into a more square secondary stance can help Matthew improve his overall catching ability. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a controlled stride. He gets into his load on time and remains centered in his lower half. He rotates his core through well and sprays the ball to all fields. Matthew can barrel up more baseballs by working through a more level swing path. Overall, Matthew is a solid prospect who has the potential to further build upon his skills on the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
