Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1B/RHPPosition Projection

01/07/2018 - National Tryout Plus - San Antonio, TX Matthew is a tall, thin, 2-way player who pitches and plays 1st base. On the mound, Matthew works in good rhythm, he has a loose arm action, and gets good extension on his pitches. He has a controlled landing, rotates well to his target, and competes in the zone. At 1st base, Matthew is solid all around. He fields cleanly and athletically, keeps the ball in front, and throws with strength and consistency to his target. Offensively, Matthew has as tall/open stance, he swings in good rhythm, and he lets the ball travel well. He has good balance, fast bat speed, and makes hard/consistent contact gap to gap.

11/12/2015 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City Matthew continues to impress with each opportunity at the Baseball Factory. Defensively, his pop times have improved with throws between 2.38-2.7. His hands remained soft with a quick release and feel for technique on throws. Less sway in his shoulders while receiving will help his overall ability to frame pitches. At the plate, Krall maintained the ability to be a line drive hitter. His swing stays loose with good hand activation and extension. At times he is rushed during his load, which creates late separation. Matthew is a coachable kid with leadership type qualities and should have a bright future in this game.

01/16/2015 - Baseball Factory Spring Training at the Yankees Training Complex Matthew is young C/SS that showed some next level tools. Behind the dish, Matt showed a mature approach with advanced skills for his age. He showed good body control and lateral quickness when blocking balls in the dirt. He receives well with a smooth transition. Continuing to develop as a C'er and working on explosive actions will improve his C'ing game. At the plate, this righty showed a great eye with the ability to work deep into counts and force a free pass. Matt has a smooth, quiet load and a solid power position. He uses all fields with a line drive approach and he will see improvement by staying back and driving with his lower 1/2. Matt is a good kid that works hard and constantly asks questions.

10/26/2014 - Interactive Video Program - Corpus Christi, TX Matthew is a young, 2-way player as a SS/C. Offensively, this RHH shows a square setup with balance. He is aggressive and is looking to take a hack. He squares the ball up and drives the middle of the field. At SS, he shows active footwork and moves around the ground ball well. He is sure handed and has a clean exchange to throw. Behind the dish, Matthew sits in well and tracks the ball into his mitt. He is quick around pitches in the dirt and keeps the ball in front. Pop times are in the 2.70 range and he makes accurate throws to 2B. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Offense
1. Let ball travel
2. Shorten swing path
3. Lower 1/2 drive
Infield
1. Play through ball
2. Lateral footwork
Catching
1. Arm strength (long toss)
2. Blocking
3. Exchange/transfer

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
