07/29/2017 - Under Armour All-America Game, Powered by Baseball Factory Matthew is an outstanding LHP prospect with excellent stuff. His fastball has good downhill plane to it and sits comfortably in the 88-92 mph range. There is certainly more in the tank, but the pitch is plenty effective as it is now. He pitches to both sides of the plate and is not afraid to throw inside to right-handed hitters. Matthew complements his live fastball with a curve that has tight rotation and late depth, and a changeup. His curve acts as his out-pitch, while his change is an effective weapon against right-handed hitters. Committed to the University of Arizona

09/24/2016 - 2016 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's Futures West Matthew is an outstanding LHP prospect with excellent stuff. His 6'4"/200 lb frame and high 3/4 slot produce good downhill plane on his fastball and he has a very good overall mound presence. He repeats his delivery well and his arm works clean and free through release into a full finish. He pitches to both sides of the plate - not afraid to throw inside to right-handed hitters. Matthew complements his live fastball with a curve and change. His curve ball has 1-7 shape to it with tight rotation and late depth. It acts as an out-pitch thanks to the change in speeds and big break. Overall, Matthew is a LHP that has very high ceiling - a strike thrower with an advanced feel to pitch with an excellent repertoire.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
