01/15/2021 - 2021 Baseball Factory Pre-Season All-America Tournament (TX) Mathew continues to show as a prospect on the diamond. At SS, defensive abilities are well above average as he displays smooth / fluid actions. Feet are active as he attacks balls and plays through well with his body. Glove action is clean and presents well out front. At the plate, he continues to shine, displaying solid hitting / power potential through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (83 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach, flashing gap to gap pop. On the mound, his righty has a 2 pitch arsenal in which to keep hitters guessing. Fastball shows a range of 74-76 mph with sink. Breaking ball displays 12/6 shape with downward break. Control is solid as he throws strike with all his pitches.

10/17/2020 - Fall Pro Training Experience - NC (HS) Matthew is an athletic SS/RHP prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the field. At SS, Matthew takes a quick first step and gets into an athletic position. He fields the ball out in front of his body and has a smooth exchange, making strong, accurate throws across the diamond. At the plate, Matthew shows great raw power from the right side (90mph exit velo). He is smooth to load and works through a level swing path. He shows good hip/hand coordination as he produces strong line drives and pull side pop. On the mound, Matthew gathers over the rubber and is fluid separating his hands. He works with a clean arm and extends through his release, staying inline toward the plate. Matthew operates with a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 80mph with arm side run. Breaking ball sits from 64-68mph with sharp 9-3 break. Changeup sits from 67-69mph with sinking action as he throws with deceptive arm speed. Overall, Matthew is a solid prospect who has the potential to contribute at the next level.

09/04/2020 - HS All-Region Tournament Matthew continues to shine on the diamond. Foot speed has improve as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.00 runner. At SS, he displays smooth / athletic actions. Feet are active as he works around balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is clean and presents well out front. Range is a plus as move well laterally, covering ground. Throws are accurate with carry (83 mph velocity) across the diamond. At the plate, hitting abilities are solid with outstanding power potential through an open setup. Hands are quick (83 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 79 mph. Breaking ball displays 3/9 shape with late break. Control is solid as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

01/26/2020 - National Tryout Plus - Myrtle Beach, SC Matthew increased arm velocity to 79 MPH and exit velocity to 80 MPH during his time in Myrtle Beach. He is a thin, 2-way player who pitches and plays SS. On the mound, Matthew has good balance over the rubber, his arm action is clean, and he separates his hands on time. He works well to his balance point, keeps his eyes on target, and his CH shows to be his best off-speed pitch. At SS, Matthew has active feet, he covers ground, and makes plays on balls hit his way. He has a quick exchange and a high 3/4 arm slot across the diamond. Offensively, Matthew has a tall stance, good feel for the barrel, and he loads his hands back. He hits hard to the pull side and he uses his lower body well.

12/20/2017 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic - Session 1 (Ages 12-14) Matthew is an athletic 2022 SS/RHP prospect. At SS, Matthew has an active prep step, plays through the ball, and makes accurate throws across the diamond. Presenting a low/early glove, working from the ground up, and fielding the ball in front of his body will make him a more efficient fielder. At the plate, Matthew tracks the ball well, and hits the ball to all fields. He creates rhythm in his hands and gets his backside through the ball. Getting his hands into the launch position, and keeping a still head will keep him on time with the fastball. On the bump Matthew Gathers over the rubber, separates on time, and keeps his eyes on the target. Having a strong front side, and creating forward tilt will prevent him from leaking open during his stride. Matthew has a good baseball IQ and showed the ability to play multiple positions. He will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

08/20/2017 - Interactive Video Program - Kannapolis (Charlotte), NC Matthew is a lean, athletic SS/RHP. Defensively at SS, he presents his hands and tries to work around the GB. He comes up with a clean transfer and makes consistent throws to his target. On the hill, this righty delivers from a straight over the top arm slot. He separates on time as he delivers a FB with tailing action and a CB with a 12-6 break. With the stick, Matthew shows a balanced setup. He swings on a short/direct bat path through the zone and drives pitches from gap to gap. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Defense
1. Lateral quickness
2. Low/square fielding position
3. Arm strength (long toss)
Pitching
1. Keep eyes on target
2. Pound zone with strikes
3. Lower 1/2 drive off rubber
Offense
1. Develop a load
2. Develop smooth rhythm
3. Lower 1/2 drive

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
