Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 3B/RHPPosition Projection

10/17/2021 - Official College Recruiting Membership - San Jose, CA Matthew is a scrappy 3B/RHP ball player in the 2024 class. Defensively, he displayed good agility and the ability to get in a good fielding position. He made routines plays and threw the ball accurately to first base and could throw from different angles well. Offensively, Matthew utilizes a crouchy stance to find balance in his swing and hit line drives to all fields. On the mound you could see Matthew is a competitor and wants to attack the zone. With 2+ years of development in a long toss/strength program we believe Matthews numbers will jump significantly.

01/17/2020 - Baseball Factory Spring Training in Arizona (Ages 12-14) Matthew is a strong, solid, 2-way player who plays 3B and RHP. Defensively, Matthew has active footwork to the ball, he fields in square position, and he gains momentum toward his target. He has good body control, a short/quick arm action, and he throws with strength across the diamond. If Matthew can field further out front and get in a better ready position, solid defensive skills will get even better. On the mound, Matthew has good confidence, a clean arm, and good direction toward the plate. His FB touches 68 MPH, his off-speed show promise, and he competes in the zone. If Matthew can become more compact in his delivery, get more extension, and finish in a more complete position, mound effectiveness can further improve. Offensively, Matthew has an open/athletic stance, he swings in good rhythm, and shows explosive bat speed. He swings aggressively, he has good strength, and he hits line drives consistently. Improved pitch selection and body control will help solid hitting grades spike.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
