Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • SS/RHPPosition Projection

03/09/2014 - College PREP - Hightstown, NJ Matthew continues to work hard and progress in his game. At the plate, this RH shows a well balanced approach and patience at the plate waiting for his pitch. He delivers the barrel quickly resulting in hard hit line-drives. More power potential is there with more lower 1/2 drive. At SS, he takes a quick first step and presents his glove out in front. He moves well right to left and can make the plays in the hole. On the bump, he is a strike thrower with a repeatable delivery. He works at his pace and stays directional toward the plate. Following through on his pitches will add to pitch effectiveness. An athletic player - Matthew's versatility will bring success on the diamond.

12/27/2013 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City Matthew is a hardworking player with a positive attitude and plus makeup and continues to show SS/RHP. Currently, he projects best at SS for the next level. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork as he works to square ground balls up, displaying soft / clean hands as he makes the routine plays. For defensive grade to continue to improve, he needs to attack balls more and play through balls more and increase foot quickness. Throws are accurate, flashing carry but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program and work to get rid of the ball quicker. At the plate, he shows a closed setup with rhythm and displays balance. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed and work through a level swing path. He works to keep his hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use lower half more and add overall body strength. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 71-72 mph with arm side run and hides the ball well. He shows good tempo as he works fast. Stock to the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength and develops more off speed pitches.

10/06/2013 - College PREP - Trenton, NJ Matt is an athletic, lean SS/RHP that will graduate in 2015. Currently, he projects best at SS for the next level. Foot speed is near average as indicate by his 7.63 60 time as he will benefit by continuing to work to increase foot quickness. Feet are active / aggressive as attacks ground balls and plays through well, presenting soft / clean hands well out front. He moves well laterally to both sides flashing range. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, Multer shows a squared / athletic setup. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through an aggressive / level swing path. He shows a solid feel for the barrel with the baseball jumping off the bat when centered. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 66-70 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with sharp break and shows potential as being a quality pitch at the next level. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, with arm side run. Stock to the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength. With 2 years to further develop, Matt has abilities with time and room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
