01/24/2021 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Knoxville, TN Matthew is solid, athletic C/SS who has a bright future on the diamond. At the plate is where he shows best, displaying outstanding hitting abilities with excellent power potential through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (88 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap to gap pop. Behind the dish, he presents a soft/sure mitt showing great pocket awareness sticking pitches. He uses his body through the blocking process, centering balls out front. Pop times showed in 2.09 range with accuracy / carry (80 mph velocity) on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss. At SS, defensive abilities are solid as he displays smooth / fluid actions. Feet are active as he attacks balls and plays through well with his body. Glove action is clean and presents well out front. He moves well laterally with range improving as he increases foot quickness. Matthew has a skill set to play at a high level and will get looks from the collegiate coaches.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
