08/30/2009 - College PREP - Yorktown, VA Matt is a two-way player as a catcher and in the OF with an average frame that shows projection as he continues to physically mature. Foot speed is average and he will benefit by getting on a speed / agility program to improve foot quickness for the next level. Feet are active but need to be more aggressive in taking proper routes and angles to track down balls. Defensive abilities are below average in the OF. Behind the plate, feet work in line showing proper direction as he shows a lot of accuracy on his throws. Pop times show a range of 2.46-2.57. Arm strength is below average and he must get on a strict long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength, lowering pop times. Receiving skills are near average and need further development to play at the next level. He shows off his athletic abilities in the blocking process displaying slightly above average abilities. At the plate, Nicewarner has below average abilities and power. He keeps his head down and works to keep hands inside but has some mechanical flaws that are hindering him from reaching his full potential. Grades will improve quickly with instruction and adjustments at the plate. Matt has abilities with a lot of room to improve.
