Official Scouting Report

07/26/2013 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City Matt is a tall 2 way player who plays 1st base and also pitches. In the infield, Matt is a big target. He shows active feet, and stretches well at 1st base. Working on his footwork and picking balls are a couple of areas for him to focus on. At the plate he has a squared setup, centered balance, and uses his lower half well. His head is still and he makes consistent contact, but he could add power if he keeps his hands inside and develops better timing. He had a nice opposite field drive during one of the games for a hit. On the mound Matt has a good mound presence and pitcher's frame, and he threw strikes with his fastball. He shows a repeatable balance point and on time separation. Matt needs to work a little quicker out of the stretch, and he can work on developing a looser arm action with more extension. With a good long toss program, his arm will get stronger and make him a strong option on the mound as well as he enters high school this fall.

05/18/2013 - Interactive Video Program - Lebanon (Nashville), TN Matt is a young, 2-way player with a tall frame. At 1st base, Matt has soft hands, active feet, and he squares up well to the baseball. He moves well around the bag, his exchange is quick and clean, and he delivers the ball with accuracy from a loose arm action. On the hill, Matt has a solid pitcher's frame, a long arm action, and on-time separation. Offensively, Matt has a square set-up, good balance, and a level swing. He makes consistent contact, has pop to the pull side, and he swings in good rhythm. He currently projects better as a 1B/hitter, but he has the frame to be a successful pitcher as he matures as well. Overall abilities can improve with work on the following.

Defense
1. Play more through ball
2. Present glove sooner
3 Long toss
Pitching
1. Finish / Bend
2. Front arm extension
3. Balance point
Offense
1. Shorten swing
2. More lower 1/2
3. More direct hands to ball

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
