06/17/2019 - College PREP - New Britain (Hartford), CT
Matthew showed only on the mound at the event. On the mound, delivery is sound / repeatable allowing his arm action to work free to the plate. Fastball shows a range of 69-72 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 2/8 shape with grade break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for pitch with sinking action. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows a crouched setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach with power showing best to the pull side. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently.
11/08/2018 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City (Ages 14-18)
Matthew is a coachable LHP/1B prospect who worked hard on his skills during his time at the Select Training & Competition at Pirate City. On the mound, Matthew gathers over the rubber and works with a clean arm. He extends through on his release and finishes with a controlled landing. Matthew shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 75mph with tailing action. Breaking ball sits from 62-65mph with 2-8 break. Changeup sits at 63mph as he throws with deceptive arm speed. Matthew can improve as a pitcher by staying inline towards the plate. In the field, Matthew shows efficient footwork and covers ground well. He gets into a square position and fields the ball out in front of his body. He makes a clean exchange and gets rid of the ball quickly, keeping his throws consistently on-line to his target. Getting into a more athletic fielding position can help Matthew improve defensively. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a square stance and takes a square stride. He is smooth getting into his load and drives through well with his lower half. He takes a direct swing with decent bat speed which leads to square contact and line drives. Continuing to add strength can help Matthew improve as a hitter. Overall, Matthew is a solid prospect who has the potential to further progress his skills on the field.
