Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/OFPosition Projection

10/26/2016 - Under Armour SoCal Classic, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Matthew continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. In the OF, defensive abilities are now outstanding as he displays smooth / fluid actions. He reads balls well off the bat and utilizes his athletic feet well in tracking down balls through proper routes / angles. Range is a plus as he covers a lot of ground. He works behind the baseball and plays through with momentum to his target and gets rid of the baseball quickly. At the plate he shows a crouched setup. Hands are quick (86 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. Power is best shown to the pull side. On the mound, control is outstanding as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. Fastball showed a range of 78-80 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. Arm action is loose and easy. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best he can be.

09/04/2016 - College PREP - San Francisco, CA Matthew is a broad, athletic 2017 RHP prospect. He has excellent control of his arsenal, attacking hitters low in the zone. He features a three pitch mix from a 3/4 arm angle with a fastball that touches 83 with run, a sharp, high 60's curveball and a low 70's changeup. He has a clean arm stroke and generates power from his back leg, driving to the plate to live low in the zone. Staying directional to the plate throughout his delivery will free up his arm and add velocity to his pitches. At the dish, this RHH is short to the ball with a good bath path and lets it travel. He hits line drives and makes solid contact on the ball. Matthew is a solid prospect who we expect to take the next step to becoming a legit prospect for the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
