08/02/2017 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Matthew is a athletic MIF who worked hard on his skills during his time at Pirate City. He is a coachable player who can make adjustments quickly. Defensively, he shows active footwork and is aggressive to come and get the GB. He funnels with soft/sure hands, and fires accurate throws to 1B. As a hitter, he has smooth actions with rhythm to load. Barrel is delivered quickly through a level path as he connects and hits line-drives. Continuing to work on his contact points, driving the ball where it's pitched will help him to utilize the entire field. Matthew is a team player who gives his all every time he steps onto the diamond. He should find success thanks to his all around solid skill-set on the diamond.

04/30/2017 - College PREP - Charlottesville, VA Matthew is an athletic 2B who has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed is outstanding as indicated by his 60 time of 6.94. At 2B, defensive abilities are well above average as he displays clean / smooth actions. Feet are active as he works to square balls up and plays through with his body. Hands are soft / sure and he presents well out front. He shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds / turn of the double play. At the plate he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick and works through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields, and flashes gap to gap pop. Power will increase as he works to utilize his lower half more efficiently. Matthew has potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
