01/17/2020 - 2020 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Matthew is an athletic OF prospect who showed well at the Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament. In the field, Matthew shows active footwork and is agile moving to the ball. He gets into an athletic position and fields the ball out in front of his body. He makes a clean exchange and gains momentum well on his throws, keeping them accurate with good backspin through his target. At the plate, this LHH sets up in an open stance with comfortable hands. He shows fluid rhythm and hits against a strong front side. He takes a compact swing with explosive bat speed, leading to consistent contact and great raw power. Overall, Matthew is a talented prospect who will be one to follow going into his senior season.

01/12/2018 - 2018 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament The 2017 Rookie Preseason All America MVP, Matthew returns and continues to impress with this athleticism. A 2020 Centerfielder, takes great prep steps, attacks ground balls to play through aggressively, and has a great first step creating plus range. Matthew can cover a lot of ground in the outfield. At the plate, this LHH can drive the ball to all fields, stings the ball with a line drive approach and quick bat speed. Matthew has a very good eye, drew 4 walks out of 7 plate appearances and reached safely 5 times. His ability to get on base consistently allowing him to make an impact in the running game as he swiped a couple bases. Projects as a very quick, athletic, high OBP Outfielder.

06/14/2017 - 2017 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's National Florida Matthew continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.09 runner. In the OF, he utilizes his quick feet well in covering a lot of ground, displaying range. He works behind balls and plays through aggressively with his feet / body. At the plate, he continues to shine. He has fluid rhythm while getting good hand separation. Barrel is whipped through the zone (as he connects with strength. The ball jumps off of his barrel through a solid line drive approach.

01/13/2017 - Baseball Factory All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament Matthew is a talented, young (2020) OF prospect from Georgia. As an OF, Matthew gets good reads on fly balls, covers the gaps, and plays through the ball. He gets into a low position and fields with soft hands. He has a clean transfer and gains momentum well on his throws which allows them to be accurate and carry through his target. As a hitter, Matthew has an athletic stance and takes a short stride to the ball. He is smooth getting back into his load and comes through with his lower half. He shows quick hands with a level swing to the ball which leads to consistently hard contact. Matthew is a skilled player and will continue to improve with experience.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
