08/17/2008 - Under Armour All-America Game 2008 Matt Purke is a LHP with a great pitcher's body and front-of-the-rotation stuff. He has a lean 6'3" frame with long arms and a high waist. His arm action is clean and continuous, but his arm angle is a bit low and leads to "slinging" type action at times. His delivery is low effort and repeatable and allows him to command all three of his pitches. His fastball sits in the 90-92 range with tail and he can reach back for as much as 94 when he needs it. His breaking ball has slurve action to it with ' tilt and good depth. He also mixes in a polished change with some fade to it. Purke has had success at every level he has pitched including a tough high school conference in Texas and the USA National Team. He has a relaxed, care-free demeanor that serves him well in pressure situations. He is extremely poised on the mound for a young pitcher. Purke's ability and make-up could lead to him being the first high school name called in the 2009 draft. Drafted in 2009 (14th overall) by the Texas Rangers, but decided to play collegiately at TCU. Drafted in the 3rd round of the 2011 Draft and is currently in the Chicago White Sox organization.
