Official Scouting Report

  • 2B/SSPosition Projection

07/17/2018 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 (Ages 12-14) Matthew is an athletic and talented 2023 Middle INF prospect that is very eager to learn. At 2B, Matthew is on time with his prep step, presents a low/early glove, and is aggressive to the ball. He has a clean exchange and has good footwork on double play balls. Continuing to practice game like throws in his throwing program will increase his ability to throw from multiple arm angles and on the run. At the plate, Matthew starts in tall stance, loads his hands back into the drive position, and hits off a firm front side. He rotates his back hip into the ball and makes contact to all fields. Continuing to see the ball deep into the contact zone and attacking the inside part of the ball will allow him to drive the ball gap to gap. Matthew will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

02/19/2018 - Interactive Video Program - Brentwood (Long Island), NY Matthew is a young, INF with a thin frame. He plays both 1st base and 2nd base. Defensively, Matthew has good pre-pitch actions, he takes proper angles to the ball, and fields out in front of his body. He has active feet, fields in a low position, and throws from multiple arm angles with accuracy to his target. At the plate, Matthew has a square set-up, a proper load, and he swings in good rhythm. He makes square contact, uses the middle of the field, and gets his lower body through. Matthew can improve overall skills with work on the following.

Defense
1. Arm strength
2. Play more through
3. Attack aggressively
Offense
1. Lower body
2. Strength
3. Balance

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
