06/29/2016 - 2016 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's National South This powerful right handed hitting backstop is a fun player to watch. His combination of raw power (exit velo = 89 mph) and fantastic arm strength makes him a very well rounded prospect to watch. Matthew is great at shutting down the opposing running game with great footwork, a quick exchange and a strong arm (1.97 pop time). Behind the plate, he has soft hands and shows good flexion to receive and is a very athletic blocker. He has a direct and level swing path with good bat speed to make hard contact. He is a prospect who should continue to make waves as he ages.

08/03/2015 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 Matt continues to develop physically with a projectable build and skill set. His defensive skill set behind the dish has improved with arm strength rising as he grows and lateral range to block has improved. His foot speed is at an all time at 7.22 and pop times are as low as 1.97 now. On the mound, he shows a great feel for pitching especially with runners on. Matt gets ahead of hitters with his FB, finishes with the CB, making him a lethal arm on the mound. As he continues to gain experience on the bump and a feel for different types of hitters, he will develop better sequence and command of all pitches. At the plate, his bat shows strong pop with power to all fields. His mature approach at the plate and willingness to learn new material allows him to constantly improve. As he learns to hit from a more athletic, lower stance with hands in sync, he will see a more consistent, powerful swing. Matt is a strong, aggressive player with a bright future.

01/16/2015 - Baseball Factory National Spring Training at Pirate City Matt is a C/RHP that showed some next level tools. On the mound, he is a solid pitcher with an 83 MPH FB, from quick arm action and a nice solid delivery. Working on direction to the plate and getting extension will improve his pitching abilities. As a catcher, he is very smooth behind the plate, presenting a big target. Working on improving his blocking skills and polishing his glove hand will improve his C'ing stock. At the plate, he's a steady hitter that tracks the ball well with a balanced approach. Letting the ball travel and continuing to build strength will take his hitting abilities to the next level. In all - Matt is a coachable player that asked plenty of questions.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
