Official Scouting Report

05/13/2018 - College PREP - Windsor (Madison), WI Matthew is a strong and athletic 2019 1B prospect. At 1B, Matthew has an active prep step and creates angles to the ball. He presents a low/early glove, works from the ground up, and has good footwork when turning double plays. At the plate, Mathew starts in athletic stance and loads his hands back into the drive position. He keeps a quiet head, hits off a firm front side, and shows opposite field power. Matthew will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

12/27/2017 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Matthew is a talented 2019 1B/3B prospect. At 1B, Matthew works off the bag well, and show the ability to field the ball side to side. He creates angles to the ball and has bag awareness. Continuing to present a low/early glove, working from the ground up, and fielding the ball in front of his body will allow him to make the routine play consistently. At the plate, Matthew starts in a tall and athletic stance. He has a simple approach and is a good bad ball hitter. Loading his hands into the launch position and attacking the inside part of the ball will allow him to get the hands through contact. Continuing to build off the adjustments Matthew made this week will allow him to elevate his game to the next level.

08/27/2017 - College PREP - Glendale (Milwaukee), WI Matthew is a strong talented 2019 1B prospect. At 1B, Matthew has an active prep step and creates good angles on the ball. If he stays down on the ball and increases his foot speed, it will allow him to have more range off the bag. Continuing to long toss will increase his arm strength as well. At the plate, Matthew sets up in a square stance and takes a short stride. He is smooth getting into his load and leads well with his lower half. He has a simple approach and consistently makes hard contact. If he continues to attack the inside part of the ball and engage his lower half, he will increase his ability to drive the ball gap to gap. Matthew continues to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
