08/02/2017 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Matthew is a very talented 2-way player who let his game shine during his time at Pirate City. He is a very coachable player who works very hard day in and day out. With the bat, this righty shows a tall/open stance with rhythm to load. Quick hands whip the barrel through a level path as he squares the ball up consistently. He battles and has good pitch recognition, as he went 3 for 5 with 3 singles, a walk and 3 RBI's at the event. Behind the dish, Matthew presents a low target, tracks pitches into a soft mitt and frames well. Throws down to 2B are on the bag as he gains ground and has a clean exchange. On the mound, this RHP has a 3-pitch mix coming from an over the top arm slot. He works to a tall balance point, has smooth separation and stays directional toward the dish. FB tops out at 77 mph as he commands it well. Slider has 11/5 shape while his CH shows to be his best off-speed pitch. Matthew is a great teammate and brings a positive attitude to the field every day as he encourages his teammates and pushes others to get better. Only a 2020 grad, the future is bright for this young, 2-way player.
