01/18/2019 - 2019 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Santos is a tall/strong (6'4"/210) RHH 2-way player (1B/RHP) who can absolutely swing it. At the plate, he stands in well with a solid base and rhythm in his hands. He takes a hack at pitches he likes, squares the ball up and creates consistent/hard contact (exit velocity = 94 mph). At 1B, he moves well to ground balls hit to his right and left, getting into a square/athletic fielding position. Hands are presented out in front as he gathers well. He moves well laterally and can make the backhand play smoothly. On the mound, Matthew fills up the zone with a 3-pitch mix (FB, CB, CH) coming from a 3/4 arm slot. He works from the stretch only and gets to a controlled balance point, stays in line toward his target. FB tops out at 80 mph as he works to keep it down in the zone. Breaking ball has 10/4 shape while changeup is thrown with FB arm speed helping to create deception. He has upside and more in the tank on the mound. This talented 2-way prospect should garner a lot of attention as he enters his junior season.
