09/29/2021 - Arizona Senior Fall Classic Matthew continues to showcase his baseball tools at the Arizona Senior Fall Classic. At 3B, he displays smooth / athletic actions. Feet are active as he works around balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is clean and presents well out front. Throws are accurate with carry across the diamond. At the plate, he shows as a switch hitter with similar abilities from both sides. Hands are quick (90 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Lower half works well through the swing and shows a feel for the barrel. At the event, he was 4 for 9 with 3 BB. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable.

02/12/2021 - Baseball Factory Opening Day Classic (HS - West) Matthew is a 2022 3B/1B. Medium frame with physical build showing present strength throughout. Primary corner IF, at 3B he showed sound defensive skill set, with good lateral range and clean foot work into and through the fielding process. Low exchange working into an over the top arm slot with arm strength recorded up to 81mph. At 1st, he displayed accurate throws and clean mechanics. Good footwork with sure actions. Big target with good bag awareness. A switch-hitter who shows bat speed from both sides. Starts from an upright and open stance. He showed hand strength at the point of contact with an approach that was looking to drive the ball into the gaps. Swings with intent who recorded a 90 mph exit velocity. As he continues to mature and develop, we see him having a promising career at the next level.

09/30/2020 - Arizona Junior Fall Classic Matthew is a strong CIF prospect who showed well during the Arizona Fall Classic. In the field, Matthew attacks the ball aggressively and shows the ability to finish plays. He gets into an athletic position and fields the ball out in front of his body. His exchange is clean and he gains ground well on his throws, keeping them accurate with carry through his target. At the plate, this switch hitter sets up in an open stance with his hands held high. He gets his hands activated in his load and hits against a strong front side, driving the ball to his pull side with authority. Overall, Matthew is a talented prospect who has the potential to further build upon his skills on the field.

01/17/2020 - 2020 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Matthew is an athletic CIF prospect who showed well at the Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament. In the field, Matthew shows efficient footwork and moves to the ball well. He gets into an athletic position and fields the ball out in front with sure hands. He makes a clean exchange and gains ground on his throws, keeping them accurate with carry through his target. At the plate, this switch hitter sets up in an athletic stance and takes a soft stride. He is controlled getting into a simple load and remains centered in his lower half. He takes a smooth, compact swing and rotates his core well, leading to great pull side pop. Overall, Matthew is a talented prospect who will be one to follow going into his sophomore season.

09/25/2019 - Arizona Sophomore Fall Classic Matthew continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and shows a tremendous future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At 1B, defensive abilities are now outstanding as he displays smooth / athletic actions. He shows active footwork and presents his glove out front to field. Feet are active and displays proper footwork around the bag as he is a quality receiver. Glove action is soft as he presents well out front and consistently showed the ability to pick balls out of the dirt. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a short stride to the ball. He is smooth getting into his load and comes through the zone well with his lower half. He takes a direct swing to the ball with fast bat speed (84 mph exit velocity) which leads to hard contact. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 70-72 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a great personality, is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

09/26/2018 - Arizona Freshman Fall Classic Matthew is a coachable 1B/RHP prospect who worked hard on his skills during his time at the Arizona Freshman Fall Classic. In the field, Matthew shows efficient footwork and is agile moving to the ball. He gets into an athletic position and fields the ball with soft hands. He makes a clean exchange to throw and keeps his throws accurate and on-line to his target. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes his stride on time. He is smooth getting into his load and hits from a strong front side. He takes a direct swing with fast bat speed which leads to hard contact and solid line drives. On the mound, Matthew keeps his eyes on target and separates his hands on time. He extends through on his release and stays inline towards the plate. Matthew shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 75mph with good arm side run. Breaking ball sits from 65-67mph with 12-6 break. Changeup sits at 66mph. With four more years to develop, Matthew has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

12/27/2017 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic - Session 2 (Ages 12-14) Sauve continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and he is a prospect on the diamond. At the plate, hitting abilities have improved, now showing as outstanding through an athletic setup. Hands are quick / explosive and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with power to all fields. Power will continue to increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. At the event, he was 2 for 5 with 2 3B and 5 BB as he shows a strong recognition of the strike zone. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around bag and is a quality receiver. Glove action is sure and presents well front. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 68-73 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but will benefit by developing more movement on pitch. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is plus as he is very coachable and is a hard worker.

11/09/2017 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition in Arizona (Ages 12-14) Matthew continues to show as a prospect on the diamond as he continues to improve his baseball tools. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Hands are clean and he presents on time and out front. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls and plays through with his body. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. At the plate, power potential is now outstanding through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (90 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields and has strength in his swing, displaying gap-to-gap pop. At the event, he was 4 for 6 with a 2B and 2 3B. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 73 mph. Fastball showed a range of 69-73 mph with an 11/5 shape breaking ball. Getting on a long toss program to develop more arm strength will aid in improving abilities on the mound. With 5 years to further develop, Matthew has the makings of a special type player with time to continue to progress his game.

06/25/2017 - Interactive Video Program - Bellevue (Seattle), WA Matthew continues to show well on the diamond with a very advanced skill-set for his age. With the bat, he can swing it from both sides of the plate (currently showing more naturally as a RHH). He has fluid rhythm to load and jumps on pitches his likes. Barrel is fired with speed as he connects and drives the ball with pop. He will be a run producer. At 1B, Matthew is aggressive and hustles to GB's hit to his right and left. He presents his glove and makes the plays with soft hands. On the mound, he has an effective 3-pitch mix in which to keep hitters guessing. FB now tops out at 72 mph as he works it in and out. Curveball shows 10/4 shape with good action. Splitter has sink and shows to be a solid out pitch, complimenting his FB well. Only a 2022 grad, Matthew has a ton of upside with a very bright future ahead of him in the game.

06/27/2016 - Interactive Video Program - Bellevue (Seattle), WA Matthew is a young (2022 grad) R/R 2-way player as a 1B/RHP. With the bat, this righty can swing it. He lets the ball travel deep into the hitting zone and takes an aggressive hack, barreling the ball up with pop. The ball explodes off of his barrel as he drives it to all parts of the field (exit velocity = 80 mph). Defensively, he has active footwork and moves well laterally. He presents his glove and fields the GB out in front. On the mound, Matthew works to a controlled balance point, has smooth separation and stays directional toward the plate. He gets strong glove side lead, drives downhill and repeats well. FB ranges from 67-68 mph as he fills up the zone with strikes. Changeup shows slight sink and is thrown with FB arm speed helping to create deception. Continuing to work on the following will help to improve skills on the diamond.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
