01/06/2013 - College PREP - San Antonio, TX Shannon showed as a catcher and on the mound for the first time at the event. Currently, he projects best behind the plate for the next level where he has improved his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date but will benefit by continuing to improve foot quickness. Pop times have improved as he threw his lowest to date at 1.98. He will control the running game at the next level with his feet / arm. Receiving / blocking skills show as quality tools that will play well at the next level. At the plate, hitting abilities have improved to well above average through an open, athletic setup. Hands are quick, generating bat speed through a level swing path. He works to stay inside and he works through the ball at contact, utilizing all fields. Barrel accuracy is a plus with baseball jumping off his bat when centered. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 79-82 mph with slight arm side run. Breaking ball is a quality pitch, displaying 11/5 shape with sharp breaking action. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but needs to develop, more movement on pitch. Command / control are a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength.

10/06/2012 - 2012 Team One Texas Showcase Matthew is a big, strong catcher that will graduate in 2013. Feet are active as he works in line through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times show a range of 2.10-2.15 with carry and accuracy on his throws. Receiving / blocking skills show as quality tools that will play well at the next level. At the plate, Shannon shows an athletic setup with rhythm. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed as he works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Power numbers will continue rise as he learns to keep barrel through the ball more and use his lower half. Matthew has a lot of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches as he continues to improve.

09/19/2012 - Under Armour Fall Classic Shannon continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Pop times have drop as he showed a range of 2.00-2.10 as he will controls the running game with his feet and arm. Throws display life, accuracy, and on line carry through his target. Receiving / blocking skills show as quality tools that will play well at the next level. At the plate, Matthew shows an athletic setup with balance. Hands are quick, generating bat speed through a level / aggressive swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel with the baseball exploding off his bat when centered. Mental makeup is a plus as he works hard and he has the makings to be a special type player at the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
