Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 2BPosition Projection

06/19/2022 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Greenville, SC Matthew is a tall 2B/RHP prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the diamond. In the field, Matthew shows active footwork and moves well to his glove side. He fields in a square position and makes accurate throws to his target. Presenting his glove out in front of his body can help Matthew field ground balls more efficiently. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a square stance and works to barrel up the baseball, driving the ball to his pull side. Matthew can create more consistent contact by working a smoother load into his swing. On the mound, Matthew gathers over the rubber and keeps his eyes on target. He works with a clean arm and stays inline toward the plate, finishing square to his target. Matthew operates with a four pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 62mph. Breaking ball sits from 58-60mph. Changeup sits from 53-55mph. Splitter sits from 56-59mph. Driving his lower half more can help Matthew improve his pitch velocity. Overall, Matthew is a developing prospect who has the potential to further build upon his skills on the field.

08/11/2019 - Interactive Video Program - Kannapolis (Charlotte), NC Matthew is a thin, 2-way player who plays 2nd base and RHP. Defensively, Matthew has active feet, he is aggressive to the ball, and he fields squarely. He makes plays, his exchange is clean, and he throws with direction to his target. On the mound, this RHP has good balance over the rubber, he separates his hands on time, and shows a controlled landing toward home plate. Offensively, Matthew has a closed stance, a short stride, and good balance. He has a direct/level swing path and hustles down the line. Overall skills can get better with work on the following.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
