04/03/2022 - All-In Membership - Charlottesville, VA Matthew recently impressed scouts with his actions at OF and on the mound. This 2023 grad has the tools that colleges are looking for in a player. In the field, he has active feet and takes great angles to the baseball. He positions himself to get behind the ball and fields in an athletic fashion. He has strong pocket feel and his exchanges are quick and clean. Arm strength is a plus tool (87 velo) and mixes in a consistent high accuracy rate to his targets. With his combination of arm and speed (7.16 60 yd), he has the ability to land in all three OF spots at the next level. On the mound, he has clean arm action and is directional to his target. He commands a 3-pitch mix from a high ¾ slot. His FB topped at 82 with more in the tank. His CB sat 66-8 with 11/5 shape and was located well in the zone. His CH sat 72-3 with cutting action. Working to maintain FB arm speed will compliment his movement on the pitch. At the plate, scouts raved about his bat speed (90 exit velo). He is a gap-to gap type hitter with future power potential. Uses a short and direct attack angle to produce hard and squared production. Overall, there is a lot to like about Matthew’s game and scouts are excited to see where this great prospect lands.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
