01/17/2020 - 2020 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Matthew is a SS/C prospect who showed well at the Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament. In the field, Matthew takes a good first step and shows active footwork. He gets into an athletic position and fields the ball out in front of his body. He makes a clean exchange and gets rid of the ball quickly, keeping his throws accurate through his target. At the plate, this LHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a square stride. He works to barrel up the baseball and produces solid pull side pop. Overall, Matthew is a talented prospect who has the potential to contribute at the next level.

06/24/2019 - College PREP - Troy (Albany), NY Matthew continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. In the MIF, defensive abilities are outstanding as he displays smooth / athletic actions. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is soft and he presents well, utilizing two hands through the process. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground. Behind the plate, pop times showed in the 2.12 range as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with zip (85 mph velocity) on his throws. Hands are soft / sure and sticks balls in the zone. He shows off his athletic abilities through the blocking process, centering balls out front. At the plate, he continues to shine through a squared setup. Hands are quick and work to and through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with power showing best to the pull side. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently.

12/27/2018 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Matthew is a coachable SS/C prospect who worked hard on his skills during his time at the Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City. In the field, Matthew takes good angles and fields the ball out in front of his body. He makes a clean exchange and keeps his throws accurate to his target. Getting into a lower fielding position can help Matthew improve defensively. At the plate, this LHH sets up in a square stance and takes a centered stride. He gets his hands activated on time and hits from a strong front side. He rotates his core well and makes consistent contact. Matthew can improve as a hitter by getting more extension through the ball. Overall, Matthew is a solid prospect who has the potential to contribute at the next level.

09/02/2018 - College PREP - Troy (Albany), NY Matthew is a lean two-way player who will graduate in 2020. As a SS, Matthew shows fluid footwork and is agile moving to the ball. He gets into a low position and fields the ball out in front of his body. He makes a clean exchange and keeps his throws on-line to his target. Matthew can improve as a SS by quickening his release on his throws. As a C, Matthew shows active footwork and centers the ball in the middle of his body when blocking. He sets up in a square stance and presents a good target to the pitcher. He makes a clean exchange and keeps his throws accurate and on-line to 2B. Matthew can improve as a C by lengthening his arm action. At the plate, this LHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a square stride. He is smooth getting into his load and hits from a strong front side. He takes a direct swing with fast bat speed which leads to consistent contact to all fields. Matthew can improve as a hitter by loading his hands more. Overall, Matthew is a solid prospect who has the potential to contribute at the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
