05/28/2020 - 2020 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's National South Matthew has many of the traits you look for in a catcher - he's a leader, he's tough and he's athletic. In addition, Matthew has some impressive tools, registering an exit velocity of 100 mph and running a 6.88 in the 60. He has a clean, simple right-handed swing that allows him to find the barrel with consistency. It's geared toward line drives and he does a nice job of using the entire field. Behind the plate Matthew has a good natural feel for the game and receives well. He also has an accurate arm giving him a well-rounded mix of tools and usability at a premium position.

02/19/2018 - College PREP - Beverly Hills (Detroit), MI Matthew is an athletic C/3B prospect who will graduate in 2021. Behind the plate, Matthew shows active footwork and takes good angels when blocking balls in the dirt. He sits in a low, athletic stance and receives pitches with a firm glove. He has a quick, clean exchange and gains momentum on his throws, keeping them consistently on-line to 2B. At 3B, Matthew shows fluid, active footwork and creates good angles to ground balls. He gets into an athletic position and fields the ball with soft hands. He has a clean exchange with a quick release on his throws and keeps them accurate across the diamond. Matthew can improve as a 3B by increasing his glove side range. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a square stance and shows a smooth rhythm. He leads well with his lower half and takes a direct swing to the ball. His hands stay inside the ball well which leads to square contact and line drives. Matthew can improve as a hitter by shortening his stride. With three more years to develop, Matthew has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
