06/24/2017 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Matthew continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At SS, he displays smooth / athletic actions. He attacks balls and plays through with his body. Range will continue to increase as he continues to improve his foot quickness. At the plate, power potential has improved through a tall, athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date, topping out at 80 mph. Fastball showed a range of 76-80 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 12/6 shape with late break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but needs to develop more movement on pitch. Control is outstanding as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is gained through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is extremely coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

12/27/2016 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 Matthew is an athletic player who worked hard on his skills during his time at Pirate City. In the field, Matthew has quick feet and covers ground to field the ball. He has a quick exchange to throw and keeps his throws consistently accurate to his target. Matthew can improve defensively by presenting his hands more out front to field the ball. At the plate, Matthew sets up in a square stance and takes a short stride to the ball. He leads well with his lower half leading to solid contact. Matthew can improve as a hitter by working on more of a load. On the mound, Matthew shows a two pitch mix with his fastball sitting from 74-79mph with good sinking action. Breaking ball ranges from 61-64mph with 10-4 movement. Matthew can improve as a pitcher by striding more directly towards the plate. Overall, Matthew is a solid prospect who has the potential to further develop his skills.

08/28/2016 - College PREP - Farmingville (Long Island), NY Matthew is talented SS/RHP graduating in 2018 with solid frame. At the plate, Matthew has a simple, balanced approach at the plate with quiet actions. His bat path is direct producing strong contact. Matthew will increase his timing and consistency with more fluid motions. In the field, Matthew plays with efficient footwork and shows good range up the middle. He works to get around the baseball and receives with a soft glove. Matthew has a clean exchange with a loose arm action from a high 3/4 slot. He works with momentum towards target and displays online throws that fit the position. On the mound, Matthew works with good tempo and poise. His mechanics are balanced and composed as he is on time throughout his delivery. Matthew has a clean arm action that extends upon release. Matthew's fastball is 76-79 MPH and is complimented by a 12-6 curveball ranging from 58-63 MPH. He also throws a 67-70 MPH change up maintaining his fastball arm speed. Matthew has upside with his wide range of abilities and will continue to develop into a solid prospect for the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
