06/23/2022 - BF Firecracker Classic WEST 18U Matthew is a C who showcased his skills during the Firecracker Classic Tournament. Behind the dish, Matthew does a good job of replacing his feet and works with good direction towards second base. Presents a good target and tracks pitches well with an easy sway. Throws from a high 3/4 arm slot with an arm velocity up to 81mph and a best pop time of 2.28 seconds. Made accurate and on-line throws to second base. Has a good spine angle on his blocks and tucks his chin. At the plate, he hits from an athletic and square stance. Hits into a firm front side and has a fast barrel through the hitting zone. Made hard contact to all fields with a bat exit velocity up to 80mph during BP. In live game action, he reached base 4 times with 2 singles, a base on balls, and was hit by a pitch.

04/03/2022 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Stockton (Sacramento), CA Matthew continues to show as a prospect on the diamond. Behind the dish, he presents a soft/sure mitt showing great pocket awareness sticking pitches. He uses his body through the blocking process, centering balls out front. Receiving / clocking skills show as outstanding tools that will play well. Pop times showed in 2.28 range with accuracy on his throws as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he continues to shine, displaying well above average hitting abilities with outstanding power potential through an open setup. Hands are quick (84 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with gap to gap pop. Lower half works well through the swing with an aggressive hip turn.

12/27/2021 - Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic Matthew is a coachable C prospect who showcased his skills during the Recruiting Classic. Behind the dish, Matthew sits in a relaxed stance and presents a good target to the pitcher. He replaces his feet to throw and keeps his throws accurate to the 2B bag. He is quick moving to block and creates good angles, keeping dirt balls in front of him. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a square stance and takes a centered stride. He is fluid to load and hits against a strong front side. He rotates his core through well and produces strong contact. Overall, Matthew is a solid prospect who has the potential to further build upon his skills on the field.

09/06/2021 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Fairfield (Sacramento), CA Matthew is a class of 2022 Catching prospect. He shows off a large and projectable frame with plenty of room to continue to add muscle on to. Behind the plate, he shows an easy set up and relaxed hips. He does a good job of creating angles to block and centering the baseball. When receiving he shows good pocket awareness and feel for the strike zone. At the plate, he hits from a tall stance. Does a good job consistently making contact. Shows the ability to drive the ball to the opposite field. Shows off some gap-to-gap power with exit velos reaching 84 MPH. Matthew is a good player that we hope to see again in the future.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
