10/02/2016 - College PREP - Parker (Denver), CO Matthew is a tall, wiry OF prospect who graduates in 2017. At the plate, Matthew has a tall, square setup and maintains direction with his stride as he uses his lower half throughout his swing. Matthew stays balanced and through a short swing path he gets extension at contact. He produces hard contact with the ball jumping off his bat and power to each gap. In the outfield, Matthew plays with efficient footwork taking the proper angles to get behind the baseball. He does a nice job softly receiving the ball and has a clean exchange. Matthew plays through the baseball and throws with a long arm action from a high 3/4 slot for accurate results. Overall, Matthew has a solid skill set and is a prospect who can certainly play at the next level.

05/08/2016 - College PREP - Lakewood (Denver), CO Matthew continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities with a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time, now an above average runner at 7.29. At the plate, is where he has improved the most, now displaying outstanding hitting / power potential. Hands are quick (85 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing. He makes consistent hard contact and shows good barrel accuracy as he works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields, displaying gap to gap pop. The baseball comes off his bat differently. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Hands are clean and he works to square balls up. Glove action is soft /sure and he consistently showed the ability to pick balls out of the dirt, saving throws. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 76 mph. He throws a split finger that shows sinking action with late depth.

05/03/2015 - National Tryout - Lakewood (Denver), CO Matthew is a R/R who has a projectable frame (6'5"/160). Defensively at 1B, he shows active footwork and hustles around the GB. He moves well to his backhand and can pick it. With the bat, this righty shows a patient setup as he lets the ball travel into the zone. He connects and drives through the zone with extension on his finish. More lower 1/2 drive will help to tap into his power potential. Only a 2017 grad - Turner continues to improve with still time to develop.

07/10/2014 - California Select Training & Competition (Session 1) Matthew really improved his hitting and power grades at the event through a squared / athletic setup. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. Barrel accuracy is a plus with baseball jumping off the bat when centered, displaying gap to gap pop. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. At 1B, he is a quality receiver, displaying proper footwork around the bag, and displays clean hands. Defensive grade will continue to improve as increases foot quickness. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

05/04/2014 - College PREP - Lakewood (Denver), CO Turner continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed his improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a solid runner at 7.64. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork around bag and is a quality receiver. Hands are clean and he moves well to his backhand side. For defensive grade to continue to improve, he needs to work through a low approach, getting glove all the way to ground and out front. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, hitting / power grade has improved through a balanced approach and setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he learns to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more.

05/05/2013 - Interactive Video Program - Lakewood (Denver), CO Matt is an athletic, 2-way player who plays 1B and SS. At 1st base, Matt has soft hands, fluid footwork, and he fields in an athletic position. He can pick out of the dirt, he squares up well to throw, and he delivers the ball with a short / loose arm action with accuracy and carry to his target. At SS, Matt fields in an athletic position, his release is quick, and he throws with consistency to his target. Offensively, Matt has a tall set-up, good balance, and a level swing path. He swings in good rhythm and shows some pop in his bat. Overall abilities can improve with work on the following.

Defense
1. Body control
2. Long toss
3. Field out front
Offense
1. Loosen grip
2. More lower 1/2
3. Load / Stride

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
