Official Scouting Report

  • OF/LHPPosition Projection

07/25/2018 - Under Armour Southwest Championships 17U, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Matthew showed good speed and athleticism both in the OF and on the mound. Defensively, Matthew gets in a good ready position, he reads the ball off the bat well, and has a quick 1st step. He tracks well, has a clean exchange, and throws with accuracy and carry to his target. On the mound, Matthew has some life on his FB, he has a loose/smooth arm circle, and his off-speed show good bite. At the plate, Matthew has a tall set-up, he loads well, and hits off a firm front side. He has fast bat speed, gets good extension, and he uses his lower body.

04/15/2018 - College PREP - Greensboro, NC Matthew is a speedy LHP/OF graduating in 2019. In the field, he shows active, efficient feet as he covers ground to get around fly balls and taking correct angles on balls in the gaps. He gets into an athletic, square fielding position while presenting his hands to the ball. Matthew could make more plays by making quicker exchanges into his throwing motion. He throws from a high 3/4 arm slot, making accurate throws to his targets. Matthew uses his body's momentum and quick release to throw the ball on a line. Matthew could see more carry by following his throws to his target. At the plate, Matthew shows a gap-to-gap approach with very good mechanics. He gets into an athletic set up with a short stride and a good load. He shows smooth rhythm with a good center balance. He keeps a firm front half and shows fast bat speed with a direct swing path. On the mound, Matthew shows very good mechanics and a quick tempo while showing a FB, CB, SL and CH in his arsenal. Matthew keeps his eyes on his target and shows good balance as he gathers over the rubber, has an on-time separation and a quick arm action. Matthew extends through the zone following his release, staying square to his target. He controls his landings and finishes with his chest over his knee. With Matthews frame, there is room to grow and add velocity to his pitches. A long toss program could also aid in added velocity. With some fine tuning, Matthew could play at the next level and make an impact.

11/14/2013 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City Matthew is a young, high-energy versatile player with very good athletic ability. He excels in the Outfield with good footwork to the ball and flows through the ball well and uses his body to accelerate his arm. He continues to improve by staying down and his first step reads are improving as well. At 1B, he has good footwork around the bag and picks well with his soft hands. As a LHP, Matthew is tall and lean with good in-line mechanics and a strong glove side lead. He continues to improve smoothing out his delivery and an athletic finish. Offensively, Matthew sees the ball very well and is a contact hitter with direct hands. Matthew continues to improve staying strong through contact and keeping his head still and on the contact point. A coach's player who is team oriented and positive.

07/30/2013 - Interactive Video Program - Raleigh, NC Matt is an athletic, 2-way player who pitches and plays 1B. On the mound, Matt ha a short arm action, he works to his balance point well, and he has good direction toward home. He has good front arm extension, and lands in a square position. Defensively, Matt has firm hands, active footwork, and he presents his glove well. He squares up well to the ball, his exchange is clean, and he throws with accuracy to his target. At the plate, Matt has a square set-up, good balance, and he makes consistent contact. He swings in good rhythm, he has a line drive approach, and he gets his lower 1/2 through. Abilities can improve with work on the following.

Defense
1. Play more through
2. Field out front
3. Long toss
Offense

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
