Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/SSPosition Projection

12/03/2017 - Interactive Video Program - Lynwood (Chicago), IL Matthew is an athletic, switching hitting, 2-way player as a RHP/SS. On the mound, this RHP has a 3-pitch arsenal coming from a high 3/4 arm slot. He works to a controlled balance point, has smooth separation and fires from a loose arm action. FB comes out a bit deceptive, ranging from 59-61 mph. Changeup has sink as he works to keep it down in the zone. At SS, Matthew is aggressive and comes to get the GB. He picks out the hops, funnels smoothly and has a quick/clean exchange. With the bat, he shows similarly from both sides. He remains balanced and waits for a pitch he likes. Hands are quick as he squares then ball up and drives it on a line. Continuing to work on the following will help to improve his all-around skill-set on the diamond.

Pitching
1. Arm strength (long toss)
2. CB
3. Drive lower 1/2 off of the rubber
Defense
1. Lateral quickness
2. Play through the ball
3. Release
Offense
1. More hand separation on load
2. Contact points
3. More lower 1/2 drive

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
